URL Dot, Firefox Add-on

urlDotURL Dot, my first publicly-released Firefox extension. And I hope it is working.

About URL Dot
A Firefox add-on to set customized prefix and list of suffixes to add to domain name for each key combination of Ctrl+Enter, Shit+Enter or Ctrl+Shit+Enter on the location bar. Would be useful for web developers using their own local server during website development. Example: www.domainName.com_localhost

Why was URL Dot created?
dotCOMplete is a great Firefox extension. But after Firefox version 3.5, it stop working due to incompatibility. I tried searching for a replacement but couldn’t find one as good as dotCOMplete. So I decided to make one myself. I hope I had succeeded.

URL Dot is still in experimental stage as reviews are required to nominate it into public state. So please download and test it and hopefully you can provide some feedback through reviews on the extension page.

Why are comments disabled on this page?
Please go to the URL Dot v0.4.1 page for more information.

URL Dot doesn’t work on firefox 3.5.1. How can I fix it?

Hi ron,

Do you have the latest version of URL Dot (0.3.1) installed?

Cos I’m also using Firefox 3.5.1 with URL Dot 0.3.1 and it seems to be working.

If you already have the latest URL Dot, can you please uninstall and then reinstall URL Dot to see if that solves the problem?

If it still doesn’t, then please do let me know more details as to how it is malfunctioning. Would also be great if you can provide me with a list of your installed Firefox extensions. Thank you.

(A bug tracker site for URL Dot is coming soon.)

Thanks so much for creating this add-on. DotComplete was one of the most useful add-ons I have ever used and I was gutted when I discovered it was incompatible for Firefox 3.5. There are a couple of similar extensions, but none quite as functional and flexible. Excellent work!

Tab Mix has a good option that is open typed URL in a new tab. I always open a lot of tabs, and current version of URL Dot open typed URL in the current tab. Can you improve this feature? Thank you!

Great utility.

Firefox 3.5.1
urldot version 0.4 (in the add on window but v1.0 in the configuration window.

I can not see any buttons at the bottom of the configuration window (a save button?).

I can see what looks like the top line of two buttons, the bottom line of the window apears thicker in two places

I can not resize the window at all.

i was just able (after a few attempts) to click on the left hand button to save a new suffix (co.uk)

I now have it working. Thanks

i can send a screen dump to show you what it looks like if that would help.

hi,
I came along for just the same reason as an other user—GB—to this extension. having Tab Mix Plus set to open typed in URIs in a new tab is unfortunately overruled by URL Dot. otherwise really great someone finally took the approach to replace dotCOMplete as it isn’t compatible with fx 3.5 at all (my only add on that I’m using a lot I couldn’t perfectly replace after upgrading)—greetz.

I noticed the issue with TabMixPlus too. I love that you’ve taken initiative to make a replacement for dotCOMplete, but the TMP incompatability is a deal-breaker for me :(

Hopefully URLdot is updated more often than dotCOMplete ;)

Thanks.

Why don’t you make the code publicly available? You would probably get a lot of help from the community in keeping the plugin up-to-date…I know I want to fix this TabMixPlus issue, for example…

hey Riff,
you can’t make a code for an fx add on not public as the extension is the code or v.v. there is just no thing as a compiled version; hence a good point for your highly welcomed attempt to start with would probably be learning this ;-)
btw: the add on author has a “real” support page (http://code.google.com/p/urldot/).

Heh, ya, I wasn’t very familiar with ffx extensions. Forgot that they’re just javascript (or jars). :$

Tab Mix Plus incompatibility is a major problem.
Otherwise, it’s as good as dotComplete.
Could you please fix this? This would be great.

Thanks

New version 0.4.1 had been submitted to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/13299

Fixes include the TabMixPlus’ open url in a new tab incompatibility.
